The NSW Men’s Fourball Championship is a two-person team event. The competition is open to any male golfer with a current Golf Australia handicap not exceeding 36.
Each pair will consist of two male members of the same golf club, being the club conducting the Stage 1 event and must remain financial members of that club for the duration of the competition.
The competition is conducted in three stages;
Stage 1: Club
A club qualifying round is conducted, usually in conjunction with a scheduled fourball event. The leading pair (metro) or leading three pairs (country), then progress to Stage 2.
Stage 2: District (District, Metropolitan play-offs)
Play-offs are conducted in each of the 20 District Associations, as well as two metropolitan play-offs. The winners of the 20 district play-offs and 20 pairs from the metro play-offs qualify to play in the State Final.
Stage 3: State Final
The State Final is 36-hole stableford (two rounds of 18-holes), which is conducted over two days in mid-October...should be a thrilling finish yet again!

Sureshotgps Fourball Championship
27 May 011http://
THE warm weather in Murrumburah last Saturday brought 10 pairs out to play the first round of the men’s 4 ball best ball championship for trophies donated by Eric Kuhn and Maurie King.
A shower of rain mid afternoon and perhaps Friday night’s ball could be the only excuses for scores not being as high as previous years.
Peter Steinke and Tim Beveridge along with Robert Bates and Darrell Cassidy were joint leaders after round one, both teams scoring 45 points.
Ian Clarke-Bruce and Robert Bunt were third on 44 points.
These three pairs will contest the district final of the Sureshot GPS state fourball at Tumut in August.
Brett Johnson and Chris Hocking were the other ball winners with 43 points.

The PGA of Australia has announced a new two year partnership with MGI which will see our Australian owned company connect with the Australian golf community at all levels.
The agreement spans across both the MGI and Sureshotgps brands with MGI assuming the position as Official Motorised Buggy, while Sureshotgps will be recognised as the Official GPS partner of the PGA.
MGI will be recognised as a support sponsor of all state based championships on the PGA Tour of Australasia in addition to the Surf Coast Knockout, the newest and most exciting event on Australian soil.
Further expanding their reach, MGI will also be a support sponsor of the PGA Professionals Championship, the Australian title for club-based PGA Members, while they will also connect with approximately 40,000 Australian amateur golfers through the Holden Scramble, Australia’s largest and most successful amateur teams event which this year is celebrating its 20th Anniversary.
“Through this partnership MGI & Sureshotgps are continuing their ongoing support of the PGA through a range of programs and events which benefit PGA Members as well as the wider golfing community,” said Brian Thorburn, CEO of the PGA of Australia.
“The PGA member network is an exceptionally valuable tool for retailers and we are delighted to be working with a partner who is committed to providing our members with so many widespread benefits.”
Speaking about the new partnership Ian Edwards Managing Director of MGI said the company was excited to be aligned with the PGA through so many programs and events.
“Our involvement with the PGA of Australian began in 2008 through sponsorship of the PGA Legends Tour, with the idea of one day expanding to the entire PGA body,” said Mr. Edwards.
“We are very much looking forward to working closely with all PGA members to educate and grow the categories of GPS for golf and motorised buggies to further enhance the game’s enjoyment while also attracting new players to the game.”
Accurate mapping only the beginning...
19 Jan 011http://www.sureshotgps.com/search. php
Sureshotgps™ is continually expanding its map base which currently stands at over 15, 000 worldwide. Our professional mappers are working around the world to create the most accurate, sub-metre golf GPS positions so golfers around the world can access these world class course maps with confidence.
Sureshotgps has made a commitment to accurate mapping ensured by walking the course.
Priding itself on the accuracy of courses, including keeping up to date with amendments, Sureshotgps employs dedicated professional mappers who physically walk the courses to obtain exact maps and ensure amendments are recorded.
To give you some more insight into the technology, GPS or Global Positioning System uses a network of satellites that provide accurate locations here on earth. Each GPS satellite sends continuous signals to Earth which the Sureshotgps collects signals from (an average of 12 GPS satellites) then calculates its distance to each satellite (via measuring the transit time of each signal) and determines its exact position on the ground. From here, the Sureshotgps determines its distance in relation to the points on the golf courses mapped and loaded into the unit to show the golfer accurate, live distances.
Other companies often choose to use a different method of mapping which usually involves Google Earth or geotagging software. While this is cheaper, it relies heavily on the accuracy and currency of the satellite maps – new or recently renovated golf courses may not be accurately represented on the map and it can take up to 12 months for Google Earth to update.
Laser Rangefinder or GPS? Laser Rangefinders require line of sight. So if you are stuck with a blind tee shot, dogleg or an obstructed view of the green then your laser rangefinder won’t be able to accurately measure your distance to the target. They also require a steady hand, especially at longer distances.

QLD Disaster Relief Appeal
12 Jan 011http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donat e.html
With the waters rising right across Queensland, from a distance it’s hard to comprehend the devastation and total effect on the livelihoods of
so many Australians.
The floods have forced the evacuation of thousands of people from their towns and cities. At least 31 towns and over 200,000 people have been affected. Damage is estimated at over AU$1bn (£650m). The estimate of damage and lost revenue is about AU$10 billion.
Three-quarters of the state of Queensland has been declared a disaster zone.
In an effort to support those in flood ravaged areas, Sureshotgps would like to raise money for those most in need.
Purchase any Sureshotgps and we’ll donate $1 to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.
We have pledged a minimum of $5000 but we hope to exceed this.
Let’s help make a difference by getting Queenslander’s back on their feet faster.
Donations will be made on all purchases from 12/1/11 to 28/2/11

Royal Melbourne Golf Club continues to impress...
19 Aug 00http://www.royalmelbourne.com.au/w elcome/index.mhtml
Royal Melbourne Golf Club is commonly regarded as Australia's most prestigious, oldest and distinguished golf club. It is located approximately 20k south of Melbourne. Its two courses are each ranked amongst the best in the world by many international golf course ranking bodies and publications. Royal Melbourne has hosted numerous national and international events, most famously the 1959 Canada Cup (now Mission Hills World Cup), and the 1970 World Cup. It was selected by the PGA Tour to hold the Presidents Cup, for the first time outside the United States, in December 1998. The game was convincingly won by the World team, captained by Peter Thomson, who had himself earlier served as the Club professional at Royal Melbourne. The course will also host the Presidents Cup in 2011.
Hamilton Island G.C now professionally mapped!
18 Jun 00http://www.hamiltonislandgolfclub. com.au/Pages/default.aspx
Hamilton Island is situated in the heart of the Whitsundays and is one of 74 tropical islands that lie between the Queensland Coast and The Great Barrier Reef. The only island in the Whitsundays with its own commercial airport, there are direct flights to Hamilton Island from most major Australian cities.
Perfectly located at the edge of the Great Barrier Reef, the Hamilton Island Golf Club has some of the most spectacular views and settings of any golf course in the world and is just a five-minute ferry ride away on neighboring Dent Island.
Earlier this year Sureshotgps were invited to map this world-class par 71, 18-hole championship course. Download the map onto your Sureshotgps and make the most of the island’s valleys and ridges with a challenging layout and 360 degree views of Hamilton Island and the Whitsundays.
Designed by champion golfer, Peter Thomson, the Hamilton Island Golf Club measures 6,120 metres (6692 yards) and is designed as a series of holes strung along the ridges and played across steep valleys. The course layout works with the landform with generally broad fairways taking the “line of least resistance” avoiding the steeper, more sensitive areas.
The only championship island golf course in Australia, the course has been designed to challenge all levels of golf enthusiasts, from resort guests to professional golfers.

Sureshotgps goes the distance with Southern Pro-Am circuit
7 Jan 00
Sureshotgps, already a staple in the golf bag of many serious golfers, has entered into a new sponsorship agreement with the Southern Division of the PGA of Australia to become the official measuring device of all Southern Tour pro-am events.
Covering pro- amateur tournaments staged across Victoria, South Australia and down into Tasmania, the PGA Southern Division each year stages approximately 80 pro-ams, participated in by over 15,000 amateur and professional golfers for whom Sureshotgps will now provide official distances.
GPS systems such as the Australian owned and made Sureshotgps have only recently become a part of professional golf, with the PGA of Australia making the decision to allow measuring devices in pro-ams only last year.
Sureshotgps is also currently the official measuring device of the PGA of Australia’s Legends Tour.
With over 800 mapped courses in Australia, Sureshotgps is arguably most widely used GPS measuring device on the market. Miranda Edwards, MGI’s Sales & Marketing Manager, says this partnership is a welcome opportunity for the company to further strengthen their relationship with both the PGA of Australia and the Australian golfing public.
“Sureshotgps is thrilled to again partner the PGA this time within the Southern Division. The contemporary thinking of the PGA to now allow measuring devices in pro-ams is fantastic for the game and for all golfers. As a company we love being part of golf at the grass roots level, and look forward to being part of every event on the calendar this year for the PGA southern division,” said Edwards.
“Using our fleet of Sureshotgps, we hope to provide every golfer with the ability to try the Sureshotgps and really experience the increased speed of play and the overall enjoyment of the game. Our fleet should be available at most events across the southern division for both pros and amateurs to experience.”

Sureshotgps launches nationwide demo fleet at golf clubs – Press Release
Sureshotgps is pleased to announce the launch of a nationwide demo fleet for complimentary use at clubs, coinciding with the momentum of local rules being passed allowing measuring devices being used on the course during a round of golf. Sureshotgps wants to educate golfers on the benefits of GPS for golf as it increases the speed of play and accuracy of shots. Ian Edwards, CEO of MGI said he “saves 20 minutes each round of golf by using Sureshotgps” – and we all know how invaluable time is in today’s society. Rounds become much more efficient and enjoyable, and golfers can become more confident in their play as they record their scores, record statistics and are shown distances to the fairway, green and hazards. Sureshotgps is committing substantial resources to promote and give exposure to GPS. As the innovators of GPS technology for golf with a colour screen, easy-to-use unit, Sureshotgps has created an affordable and accurate device that can be used by everyone who plays golf.

The Sureshotgps was developed in Melbourne, Australia in 2005 and since then has risen to become the most popular handheld GPS for golf in Australia. The full colour screen unit is extremely user friendly and has outstanding sub-metre accuracy measuring up to 15 hazards per hole and to the front, centre and back of the green. Golfers can also analyse their every shot as the Sureshot gives you the ability to record scores and statistics, which they can then upload and save for hole by hole analysis on their PC. Sureshotgps stands by a commitment to develop worldwide mapping of golf courses and has so far developed a database for users of over 14,000 maps, including 1400 in Australia. Each unit has the option to hold up to 100 courses at anytime, with limited free downloads offered with every unit. Sureshot sponsors the PGA Legends Tour
6 Aug 09
Sureshot is excited to be an Official Sponsor of the PGA Legends Tour in conjunction with PGA Australia approving the use of measuring devices on the tour. The Legends Tour leads the way in Australian golf as the first arm to permit the use of measuring devices in competition. This progression in Australian golf coincides with the rapid growth of technology in day-to-day life, and here at Sureshot we believe it will only benefit the game and increase participation levels.

On the 14th March 2008, the New South Wales Golf Association (NSWGA) in Australia declared its intention to introduce a rule permitting the use of measuring devices, such as the Sureshotgps™, during its events.
This follows the Victorian Golf Associations change on 1st January 2008 and the European Tour's decision on 15th January.
The NSWGA have based the decision on a number of factors including the decrease in cost and accessibility of the unit. The other obvious reason is the increased evidence that distance measuring devices actually improve the speed of play - the main reason for the R&A's change in 2006.
Miranda Edwards, the Sales & Marketing Manager of MGI, the owners of the Sureshotgps™, said "The contemporary attitude of the NSWGA is something to be commended. Many traditionalists govern the game of golf, however it is extremely healthy for the game to adopt new ways to enjoy the game. Now the club golfer has the ability to increase their speed of play and the enjoyment for themselves and others."
Sureshotgps™ was developed for the global golf market to answer the age old question: "How far is it to the green?". This advanced handheld device features a specially designed colour, backlit screen with polarised filter that clearly displays distances to hazards and greens. Distances can be measured from the tee to the front, centre and back of the green, enabling mapping of the front and carry of up to 15 hazards per hole and up to 33 reference points per hole. A player has the ability to tailor his own mapping requirements, whether the selected golf course is professionally or personally mapped, with lay-up points, for example. Another option allows a player to record and analyse statistical information for a round of golf, such as fairways hit, greens in regulation, etc. The device is capable of holding up to ten golf courses at any one time, from a database of over 12,000 courses. Many golfers, both amateur and professional, already have discovered the exceptional qualities and ease of use which Sureshotgps™ offers.
For around $549, the club golfer can access sub metre accuracy from any point on the course, doing away with the need to look for markers and guess work. This world product can be played on any golf course in the world, including the 12,000 already mapped golf courses.
